'60 Minutes' Standing By Armstrong Story

By Cam Martin

Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong recently demanded “60 Minutes” apologize on-air for a May 22nd expose that featured former Armstrong teammate Tyler Hamilton saying Armstrong had used and received performance-enhancing drugs and had covered up a failed drug test from the 2001 Tour de Suisse.

“60 Minutes” says it’s standing by its story.

“Lance Armstrong and his lawyers were given numerous opportunities to respond to every detail of our reporting for weeks prior to the broadcast and their written responses were fairly and accurately included in the story,” said CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager. “Mr. Armstrong still has not addressed charges by teammates Tyler Hamilton and George Hincapie that he used performance enhancing drugs with them.”
