WKRN’s struggle to meld new, old media

WKRN/Nashville’s efforts to reinvent itself has been the subject of a lot of ink – but now Broadcasting & Cable is out with a story on how many of those efforts are crumbling now that GM Mike Sechrist and news director Steve Sabato are out the door. B&C suggests that the exits were due to friction between the folks leading the WKRN innovation and corporate parent Young Broadcasting. While the VJ model of news gathering isn’t expected to go away – some think NashvilleIsTalking.com and some of the station’s other digital innovations are headed for the scrap heap.
