JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an online news editor to produce local news stories
and multimedia for WNBC.com. This individual will report to the Web
site Executive Editor and work in the WNBC newsroom in mid-Manhattan,
NY. This fast paced, multi-faceted job is best suited for a
journalist with experience in online media technology.

This is a hands-on position, gathering and compiling news from a
variety of outlets, including television news partner, the Internet,
wire services as well as traditional news sources for publishing on
the web site, with an emphasis on delivering breaking entertainment
news quickly and accurately. The Web editor is also expected to work
with new methods of content delivery, such as pod casts and Web
casts, and be open to learning new technical skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Writes and edits materials for target audiences integrating
compelling and creative text, still images, audio- and video-file
components, and links to relevant Internet resources into an
appealing and thoughtful online package.

Updates the web site throughout the day, coordinating with station
news department and IBS staff for the latest news and features.

Reviews online competition and other news sources

Attends show meetings, presents show producers with elements to tease
that day, contribute story ideas from online elements (surveys,
forums, etc.); provide producers with script drafts for teasing
online coverage.

Publishes and assists station staff with new modes of content
delivery such as podcasts, blogs,etc

Evaluates show rundowns to decide which stories to post online and
how they should be produced (video, text, forums, surveys, sidebars,
etc.)

Provides stories and other content to IBS national and contributes to
IBS network coverage.

Ensures accuracy of stories by double checking any necessary facts in
assigned projects

Possesses online acumen to provide added value to reports initially
developed by broadcast staff

Replies to user e-mail and/or routes appropriately.

Troubleshoots with technical staff, production team and programmers

Maintains open communications with TV station staff and fosters a
collaborative environment to benefit both the online and on-air
products.

Drives Web users to watch the station, including: creation of online
tie-ins, co-sponsorship opportunities, and topical promotion.

Provides editing support to other teams as needed

Participates in IB editing team activities and supports editing team
goals

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
REQUIRED:

Four-year college degree; publishing, communications, English,
marketing, or related coursework preferred.

Established journalistic track record with at least 2 years
experience in news/entertainment.

Familiarity with word processing software; Word preferred Familiarity
with AP style preferred.

Working experience with a TV station.

Ability to work in a team setting, with broadcast partners, and under
tight deadlines is key. Ability to deliver integrated compelling news
stories quickly and accurately, using sound news judgment.

Ability to prioritize, work independently, and manage simultaneous
assignments within an intense deadline-driven environment

Ability to effectively use strong analytical and problem-solving
skills.

Ability to influence across the organization and work effectively
with all levels of management and staff.

Knowledge of editing and AP stylebook standards.

Ability to pass editing test.

Ability to convey complex subject matter clearly and engagingly.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Ability to catch spelling errors without electronic assistance (on
hard copy).

Skill in keying 60 wpm to meet deadlines for various projects.

Ability to be flexible in schedule and adaptable to constant change.

Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and frequent
interruptions.

Ability to work with a positive attitude.

Ability to work well in a multitasking environment paying close
attention to details.

Ability to be effective ambassador to broadcast personnel.
