How to Watch the First Episode of House of the Dragon for Free

By Rebecca Theodore-Vachon

You can now catch the premiere episode of House of the Dragon for free on HBO Max’s YouTube channel.

The company apparently uploaded the series in order to drudge up more interest and boost viewership. However, it doesn’t need much help in that regard.

The Game of Thrones prequel, which premiered last month, has been a ratings winner. HBO announced that the series reached nearly 10 million viewers across linear and HBO Max platforms in the U.S. in its Aug. 21 debut. And on Monday, the company said the episode was approaching 25 million viewers in the U.S.

“House of the Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response,” Casey Bloys, CCO at HBO and HBO Max, previously said in a statement about the ratings.

The episode reportedly isn’t available on HBO Max’s YouTube channel in all countries, so watch it while you can.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the 10-episode drama is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of the powerful Targaryen family and a civil war that took place known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The series stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, Milly Alcock and Rhys Ifans.
