Fresh off the success of the critically acclaimed The Woman King, Viola Davis has signed on to star in the action-thriller G20 from Amazon Studios and MRC Film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script is written by Noah and Logan Miller (White Boy Rick) and will be directed by Patricia Riggen (The 33 and Miracles From Heaven). Davis will also serve as a producing partner with her husband Julius Tennon through JuVee Productions along with Andrew Lazar of Mad Chance.
The Oscar-winning actress will play American president Taylor Sutton who must bring all her statecraft and military experience to defend her her family, her fellow leaders and the world from a group of terrorists while attending the G20 Summit.
“Viola bringing her unmatched strength, depth and humor to this kind of fun, popcorn movie is something we cannot wait to see,” said MRC Film co-presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman in a statement. “In Patricia, we have the perfect director to balance a grounded character story with a satisfying genre film.”
In addition to The Woman King, Davis is currently featured in the superhero film Black Adam, where she reprises her role as nefarious government operative Amanda Waller.
