Time-Warner Cable rebrands its local news channels

By Steve Safran

Time-Warner cable has renamed all but one of its local news channels to “Your News Now.” The only exemption is NY1, because of its well-known brand. Brian Stelter at the New York Times reports that the company undertook the effort to consolidate disparate brands. While most are not yet profitable, the cable news channels are an important differentiator for Time Warner Cable, whose competitors can’t offer them. If the brand seems a little generic, that’s by design; the company wants to encourage sharing of graphics, reporters and sales across stations. Having the same brand, they believe, will help the effort.
