The Witcher Promises to Give Henry Cavill ‘The Most Heroic Sendoff’

Fans of the Witcher were stunned when star Henry Cavill announced he would be leaving the role of Geralt of Rivia this past October. However, series creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has assured fans Cavill will get a worthy sendoff.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hissrich addressed Cavill’s exit. ““Henry has given so much to the show and so we want to honor that appropriately. Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri. And to me, it’s the most heroic sendoff that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that. Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in season four. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement.”

Hissrich also shared that Season 3 will be based on Time of Contempt, the fourth novel in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher series and that it will be closest thing they’ve done as a one-to-one adaptation of the books.

Liam Hemsworth has been cast to play Geralt after Cavill’s departure. Cavill’s next project will be starring and producing the Warhammer 40,000 series for Prime Video. Warhammer 40,000 is set in a far-off future where a stagnant human society is plagued by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures.
