CES 2012: Showtime Anytime iPad app is finally here

By Natan Edelsburg

After a long wait since the original announcement, Showtime Anytime, the network’s second-screen on-demand app has arrived (for iPad). Showtime now boasts a catalog of impressive shows ranging from Dexter to Homeland to the recently-premiered Shameless, Californication and the brand new House of Lies. The free iPad app features more than 400 hours of original shows and movies.

As the lines blur between water-cooler talk around who in the premium space has the best shows, it’s important that Showtime can now offer content in the same kind of way that HBO GO and Xfinity have changed the way we consume premium content.

After logging in with Verizon FIOS or AT&T U-Verse, you’re taken to a beautiful magazine-cover looking home page, which for me was for the premier of Shameless.

The social features are accessible within the info page for each episode or film. Within the description page, you can either Facebook share or tweet. The pre-populated tweet that comes up includes the show’s official handle. You can also add different shows to lists, and a “play shifting” feature allows users to pause a program then continue watching it with a different device.

An iPhone and Android version will be coming out later in 2012, and the same video is available on ShowtimeAnytime.com.
