Spartanburg Spark declares itself "3.0"

By Steve Safran

The local, online-only Spartanburg Spark has added a bunch of new features and has a new look. In an entry called “The Spark Goes Web 3.0,” the site details some of its many new features:

  • We now have the ability to let users create and join groups around their interests, as well as have their own user forums within those groups. That’s right, if we’re not talking about a local subject that’s important to you, you can start your own group and forum about it.
  • Users can now friend and private message each other, as well as create more interesting user profiles.
  • We can now offer sub-blogs and special interest pages, allowing us to support a much wider range of interests and voices than ever before. Just one application of this is that it has turned the Spark into a hyperlocal online dating site. And as we refine our profile and groups sections, we’ll be able to offer many other ways to connect with people with a variety of interests in the community.
  • We now have a fancy slideshow player for our most recent blog posts, which looks cool.
  • OK, good additions. But does this make The Spark “3.0?” Have we decided on a definition for 3.0? I don’t want to get too wrapped up in this – the additions are what matter more – but what do you think?
