For the past couple of months my main source of news was a new site called SocialMedian. The site had been in Alpha, but as of Friday it is now in open beta. The basics of the site is that you can join news networks (iPhone, Campaign 2008, etc.) and then clip (post) news to that network. You can also have the site feed in news to specific networks. Simply put its a socially driven news feed. To get an idea you can join and contribute to the Lost Remote News Network. You should also log on and see if your city has a news network. If not, start one. If they do, be sure to add your feed as a source.
For people who typically read lots of feeds to stay up to date on a specific topic this might be a way to simplify your news consumption. It will be interesting to see how a site like this can play into local news. For example, a person living in New York who cares about Jazz music can now join the New York Jazz Scene network.
