Scribd proving to be valuable resource for Egypt news

By Steve Safran

We want to arm stations with good tools for their coverage of Egypt. Go to Scribd today and you’ll find a wealth of good documents. Under the heading “Unrest in Egypt 2011,” there is a petition from 14 human rights and trade organizations. You’ll also find: A memo from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and about 11,000 documets related to Egypt (choose your search keywords carefully). For those who aren’t familiar with Scribd, a description from the site:

“Scribd is the world’s largest social reading and publishing company. We’ve made it easy to share and discover entertaining, informative and original written content across the web and mobile devices. Our vision is to liberate the written word, to connect people with the information and ideas that matter most to them.”

The site also allows websites to embed documents a la YouTube and the information is easily shared on Facebook, Twitter and the usual social suspects. It would be a great service if you or your station were to put up your own documents on Scribd.
