Just last month, we reported that Samsung’s TV app store hit a milestone of 1 million app downloads. Today, Samsung announced it just hit 2 million. Among the most popular apps: YouTube, Hulu Plus, ESPN Next Level, AccuWeather, Google Maps and Texas Holdem.
Now, before we get too excited, Engadget offers a little perspective: Apple’s app store delivered 1.5 billion downloads in its first year, and the Mac app store passed one million downloads on opening day. But growth is accelerating, and as TV manufacturers improve the user experience — and standardize platforms — TV app consumption will become mainstream in the years to come.
