In the film, Blanc travels to Greece to work on a new, quirky mystery that involves several suspects you might recognize. The cast includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn ClineKate Hudson and Dave Bautista.

The director recently explained the title of the film to Netflix, saying it came from the 1968 Beatles song of the same name. He said he always wanted Blanc to have an “overwrought metaphor” he can continually push, and he got hung up on the idea of something being glass or clear.

“I literally got out my iPhone and searched my music library with the word ‘glass.’ There’s got to be some good glass songs. I was like, ‘Oh, is it a glass fortress? Is it a glass castle? Is it a glass man?’ The first thing that came up, because I’m a huge Beatles fan, is ‘Glass Onion,'” Johnson said.

Glass Onion will release globally on Netflix on Dec. 23, and also appear in select theaters, though the streamer didn’t reveal the date of the theatrical debut.
