Politico.com helps boost WJLA coverage

Allbritton owns both Politico.com and WJLA, and both news operations share the same facility. “We’re separate entities in the newsroom, but we derive enormous benefits from having them there,” says Bill Lord, WJLA’s VP of news. “We use each other constantly.” Politico is growing like wildfire — up to 3.6 million monthly unique users — and it has plans to add more staff and launch a new site in the coming months, reports Broadcasting & Cable. While WJLA is benefiting from Politico’s coverage, the jury is still out on whether it’s translating to a sustainable ratings boost.
