Netflix has picked up Unstable, a new comedy series starring Rob Lowe and his son, John Owen Lowe. The scripted project, co-created and executive produced by both Lowes and Victor Fresco, is inspired by the Lowes’ social media relationship.

“We are very excited to be working with Victor, Rob and John Owen,” said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix head of comedy in a statement. “The three of them—and their wildly funny, smart sensibilities—are a perfect fit for our growing slate of scripted comedies.”

Unstable is set in a cutting-edge biotech research company where an introverted, socially challenged son goes to work for his successful, eccentric father in order to save him from disaster.

Rob Lowe currently stars in the FX series 911: Lone Star. John Owen Lowe’s acting credits include The Grinder and the Netflix film Holiday In The Wild, as well as serving as a story editor on 911: Lone Star and penning several episodes.

Fresco, who will also serve as showrunner of Unstable, has created seven television series including Santa Clarita Diet, Better Off Ted and Andy Richter Controls The Universe.
