Netflix Cancels The Midnight Gospel

The Midnight Gospel is no more.

Series co-creator Duncan Trussell shared on Twitter there won’t be a second season of the adult animated series on Netflix.

“The Midnight Gospel was cancelled by Netflix,” he wrote in response to a fan asking about future seasons. He added that it’s not possible for the series to find a home on another streaming platform as Netflix owns the rights.

The series follows a space caster who travels trippy worlds inside his universe simulator, exploring existential questions about life, death and everything in between.

The cancellation comes at a time when Netflix’s internal animation teams are facing early development cancellations and there is a general sense that the golden age of Netflix animation has passed.

Netflix cancelled a number of animated projects following abysmal first-quarter results. Among the titles were Centaurworld Season 2, The Twits, Dino Daycare, Pearl, Boons and Curses, Bone, Toil and Trouble and Wings of Fire.

Big Mouth, which has been renewed through Season 7, Chicago Party Aunt, Inside Job and Human Resources are among Netflix’s current animated comedies for adults. Agent King, Entergalactic, Farzar and Mulligan are among the upcoming projects.
