NBC's The Voice pulls out all the stops on Twitter

By Cory Bergman

NBC’s The Voice premiered Tuesday night, and it quickly topped Twitter’s trending topics. It doesn’t hurt that all four judges on the show (@BlakeShelton @AdamLevine @CeeLoGreen @TheRealXtina) have Twitter accounts topping 100,000 each. And along with host Carson Daly (@carsonjdaly), each of them tweeted during the East Coast airing.

Those tweets appeared on air, interspersed throughout the broadcast.

Viewers were also encouraged to “tweet along” with the host and judges using #thevoice hashtag. But that’s not all: NBC also brought on Alison Haislip (@alisonhaislip) from G4 TV as its “official social media guru” (um, have you seen her site?) A promo during the show invited viewers to tweet along with her, too. “Oh snap! There’s a certain blonde twitter-fiend on your tv right now!” she tweeted as the promo aired.

Meanwhile, the show’s official account, @NBCTheVoice, kept pace with all time zones. It’s best moment of the night: retweeting Idol winner @kelly_clarkson admitting she was “cheating on American Idol” and watching the show.

Of course, at the end of the night, it’s not whether you’re a trending topic on Twitter, but how The Voice fares in the Nielsen ratings. We’ll see…

Update: NBC won the night in the 18-49 demographic with a 5.1 rating. “It was NBC’s strongest series premiere since 2009’s The Jay Leno Show’s 5.3 rating following 2008’s American Gladiator’s 5.9 rating,” explains TVbytheNumbers. The show also ranked #1 in both Trendrr and SocialGuide‘s rankings of the most social shows on Tuesday.
