Media partnership auction site 'boocoo' launches today

By Steve Safran

There’s a new auction site on the block (as it were), and it’s a partnership that includes more than 300 newspapers and TV stations. The site, boocoo, opened for business today, taking on eBay, in an effort to make up ad money losses. What makes boocoo different from other auction sites? For one, slightly lower fees. If you’re selling something for, say $100, you’re on the hook for 80 cents plus 6% of the sale price. On eBay, the same listing would cost you a dollar plus 9% of the sale. Media partners with boocoo are also committed to giving the site print and broadcast ad campaigns. Still, we note, there are plenty of eBay contenders to the throne – and it will take more than saving a few pennies and two percent to win over fans. A free or nearly-free site would likely give people more incentive to sell their wares.
