To coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding Olympic scandal, LogoTV last night premiered ‘Ice Queens,’ a parody of the numerous made-for-TV renditions of the scandal featuring drag queens from ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race.’
The most interesting aspect of the mini-series is that it marks the first time a network has simultaneously premiered a mini-series across linear TV, the web, mobile, and social. The premiere launched on LogoTV, LogoTV.com, the LogoTV app, and on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine.“To mark the 20th anniversary of the controversy and with the Winter Olympics in full swing, we wanted to offer a fresh take on one of the games’ most memorable moments, while getting fans excited for a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race,” said Pamela Post, Vice President of Programming for LogoTV. “For better or worse, Ice Queens now becomes a foot note in TV history as the first film to premiere across all platforms at the same time.”
The network has released shows in innovative ways before. The LogoTV app is a big focus for the network, and it recently released the premiere of Season Six of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ a week before it is set to debut on linear TV. And in June, LogoTV debuted ‘The Vines of Sauvignon Blanc’ the first soap opera to be created exclusively for Vine.
