Locamoda enhances Foursquare with digital out-of-home media integration

By David Weinfeld

The convergence of mobile social networks and physical locations just got a major shot in the arm. Locamoda, a pioneering social media company specializing in digital out-of-home, has brought Foursquare visualizations to place-based media networks. Though such an integration has been possible since Foursquare opened its API, Locamoda is the first company to make the natural extension a reality.

While mobile is often viewed as the connective tissue between our digital and physical worlds, adding place-based media screens to the mix enhances the cross-platform experience. Tying digital signage into location-based mobile services extends digital conversations to a broader network of people. Such integration will undoubtedly expand Foursquare’s user base while heightening its overall functionality.

LocaModa’s CEO Stephen Randall said, “There is an enticing and growing demand to take location-based services that are otherwise only visible on mobile phones or online, and make it easy for venues and users to interact with the messages at the location.”

Tristan Walker, Director of Business Development at Foursquare, agrees, “By giving Foursquare a visual and interactive presence in venues, LocaModa is enhancing the user experience and making it easy for venues to offer specials and rewards to their most loyal customers.”

In addition to securing a deal with IndoorDirect, one of the nation’s largest digital signage networks, that will see Locamoda Foursquare application featured in over 1,000 quick service restaurants, the company is bringing the social gaming platform to Vegas in a big way. Through a partnership with Clear Channel Outdoor, Foursquare check-ins will appear on the landmark 126-foot LED digital billboard at the entrance to Las Vegas’ Miracle Mile Shops.
