Latino reality show Q'Viva teams with Yap.tv for second screen

By Cory Bergman

The Latino talent show Q’Viva, hosted by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, airs throughout Spanish-speaking countries as well as an English-language version on FOX. Today, Yap.TV announced the show — produced by Simon Fuller — has partnered with the social TV company to power a second-screen experience. It’s billed as the “first TV show format that incorporates original, produced content on the second screen simultaneously with the first broadcast,” according to the Yap.tv press release. In exchange for Yap.tv’s technology, the show will provide “millions of dollars worth” of on-air promotion.

That promotion has kicked off on FOX.com, where the show’s page splashes the new Yap.tv experience. We have yet to give the app a spin, but the promise of truly original second-screen content is a compelling one. Most second-screen experiences today offer factoids and quizzes, but very little exclusive, engaging content.

“The digital age allows us to redefine entertainment and create so many new ways for the consumer to enhance their experience and pleasure,” said Simon Fuller, CEO of XIX Entertainment and the founder of American Idol. “The second screen does just that, by creating an interactive and social experience with the programs we love, that previously would not have been possible.”

Here in the US, the FOX version of Q’Viva was just moved to late-nights due to poor ratings, but that’s not the case in many Spanish-speaking countries. Yap.tv says it’s “poised to become the #1 social TV application for Latin America.”

By the way, Yap.TV also powers the USA Anywhere app for NBC Universal.
