John Wick Prequel The Continental Moves to Peacock

The Continental, the highly anticipated three-part special event based on the action franchise John Wick, is moving to Peacock.

The event will premiere exclusively on Peacock in 2023, despite the project being initially developed for Starz back in 2018. The series’ shift to Peacock makes sense considering the streamer recently acquired the rights to the John Wick film franchise.

The Continental will examine the history and inner workings of the opulent Continental Hotel, a central location in the John Wick universe and a haven for assassins. Winston Scott (portrayed by Colin Woodell) is pulled around 1975 New York to confront a past he thought he had left behind, as told from the perspective of the young hotel manager. Winston plots a murderous route through the enigmatic underbelly of New York City to grab control of the renowned hotel, which serves as a meeting place for the most dangerous criminals in the world.

“The John Wick films have become a global phenomenon, are among the most watched titles on Peacock, and we are thrilled and honored to partner with Lionsgate to extend this incredible franchise,” said Kelly Campbell, president of Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer, in a statement. “We understand the value of a global franchise and Val Boreland and team knew that by bringing this special event series to Peacock and putting the full power of NBCUniversal behind it, the premiere of The Continental will be the streaming event of the year.”

“John Wick has become part of the cultural zeitgeist with a massive, passionately engaged fan base around the world,” said Lionsgate Television Group Chair Kevin Beggs. “We’re delighted to partner with Peacock to continue expanding the John Wick Universe.”

Colin Woodell stars alongside Ayomide Adegun, who will portray a young Charon; Mel Gibson, who portrays Cormac; Peter Greene, who depicts Uncle Charlie; Ben Robson playing Frankie; Hubert Point-Du Jour as Miles; Jessica Allain as Lou; Mishel Prada as KD and Nhung Kate as Yen.

Keanu Reeves, who stars in the John Wick movies, is not expected to appear in the series.

The John Wick movies have amassed nearly $600 million in box office receipts globally, with each movie beating its predecessor. John Wick: Chapter Four is slated for international release in March 2023.
