Hulu App Adds SharePlay Support to Stream With Friends

Hulu has updated its apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV with support for SharePlay, which allows users to watch streaming TV shows and movies together via FaceTime.

SharePlay was introduced in iOS 15 and allows a group of people on a FaceTime call to sync up content for a multi-person viewing experience.

Users will need to have a Hulu account and can access SharePlay by starting a FaceTime call, then opening the Hulu app, selecting a TV show or movie, tapping the “Share” button and then selecting the “SharePlay” option.

Anyone can rewind, fast-forward, reverse and those commands will apply to every feed. SharePlay also automatically lowers the volume when it detects speech so friends and family can be heard during the content playback.

“In this release, we are helping spread the Hulu love by introducing SharePlay,” according to the patch notes on the App Store. “With SharePlay, you can watch content from the Hulu streaming library in sync with friends and family over FaceTime.”

Last month, another Disney-owned streaming app, ESPN, also added SharePlay support.
