House of Cards 304Its second season debuts on Valentines Day, but fans who love “House of Cards” have reason to rejoice before then: the show has been renewed for a third season.

“I am shooting Season Three. End of story. There is no debate,” show star Kevin Spacey told The Baltimore Sun. “Yes, we’re coming back to Baltimore. We love Baltimore. We’ve had a nice time. We can’t wait to return.”

The show has served as a trailblazer for online-only TV, drawing nine Emmy nominations and four Golden Globe nominations for its first season (including a win for actress Robin Wright) and threatening traditional TV’s prowess with its binge-release strategy.

The show living on for a third season is big news for second screen in that it suggests the binge-release, online only hallmark can go beyond just one or two seasons, potentially becoming no different than traditional TV shows that run as long as a decade.

We’ll continue covering all developments surrounding season two, which debuts on February 14 on Netflix.
