HBO Drops Gentleman Jack Season 2 Trailer: ‘Your Next Chapter Awaits’

By Jessica Lerner

The love story of Anne Lister and Ann Walker continues in the new teaser for the eight-episode second season of Sally Wainwright’s Gentleman Jack, which will debut in April on HBO and HBO Max.

Set in Yorkshire in 1834, Season 2 of the HBO/BBC series finds all eyes are on Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) and Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle) as they set up home together at Shibden Hall as wife and wife, determined to combine their estates and become a power couple, per the synopsis. But Anne Lister’s entrepreneurial spirit and her relationship with Ann Walker scares the locals, but as shown in the new trailer, an unapologetic Anne doesn’t seem to care if she ruffles any feathers and brushes off attempts to quell her determination.

“If I were a man—and thank heaven and providence that I’m not—would you even think to question my ambition?” Anne asks at one point. But, with Halifax on the verge of revolution (which we get some teases of during the trailer) Anne’s refusal to keep a low profile becomes provocative and dangerous.

Season 2 will once again draw on Anne Lister’s real-life diaries, some of which were written in code, with every detail of Lister’s narrative based on historical facts and the five million words she penned in her journals.

Filming for the second season wrapped last October. HBO has not set a exact April premiere date yet.
