Google Plus debuts its first TV commercial

Google+ has launched a television commercial, which started airing during the Lions vs. Packers NFL game on Thanksgiving. The commercial focuses on the importance of “Circles” and how, “in your head you assign everyone these roles, once you step back and get away from that you realize these are the people that were actually there for me.”

Whether Google+ is doing well or not (or what the definition of well should actually be) it is definitely still unclear on what the network will become both in general and for television. The company’s decision to invest and launch TV ads during a highly watched DVR-proof football game probably means they’re at least not embarrassed with the results and feedback so far.

The commercial, which also highlights their “Hangouts” video chat is definitely a technology that one day might bring real-time web video to TV in a similar way tweets get on TV.
