GetGlue rolls out new conversation, discovery and web features

By Natan Edelsburg

Today, GetGlue has announced a bunch of updates for their iPhone and web app with the hope of improving discovery within their community of “over 2,000,000 entertainment fans that checked-in more than 100,000,000 times” in 2011. This past year was a big one for GetGlue; they really seem to have created a place for TV fans to find each other, win fun stickers (that they actually send you) and more. They even had a promotion with Entertainment Weekly and the GAP with a 40% discount for the fall TV season.

GetGlue prevalence feels a lot like Foursquare did a year ago. There’s an impressive number of users, the core social TV fanatics, fans and execs know about it well, but it hasn’t quite reached a point where a random person might have heard of it. 2012 seems like it will be a big year for GetGlue, and I’m sure they’ll be making some big announcements early in the year. In the meantime here’s a summary of some of the new updates.

“Stream that turns your friend’s entertainment into user generated art.” – They key new feature here is that you can vote and reply right from the stream.

“You can use the swipe gesture to easily switch between several recent conversations.” – this will be a great feature to navigate and find good conversations going on as more fans flock to the network, that is if conversations in real-life or online don’t distract you from a show.

“The new screen looks like a Sticker book.” – the new site, especially profiles and users “Likes” do feel a lot more like a sticker book. It’s also a lot easier to check-in now on the web app with a big “Check-in” button at the top.

We’re excited to see what GetGlue has in store for 2012. Hopefully it will involve a lot more, real-life stickers.
