Former TV anchor lands $1 million for local startup

Former Twin Cities anchor Rick Kupchella has just completed a $1 million round of funding for BringMeTheNews.com, a local news aggregator in Minneapolis with a radio arm.

“This investment and partnership offered by The Dolan Company and Padilla Speer Beardsley will help us grow BringMeTheNews further and faster,” said Kupchella in a press release. “We expect to use this investment to expand beyond Minnesota as well as broaden the content we offer to other categories.”

While a local news aggregator by itself may not sound very promising, BringMeTheNews also produces a series of radio newscasts — drawing on those aggregated stories — on more than a dozen Minnesota stations, including a few in the Twin Cities. It sells sponsored copy into the site as well as on the radio stations.

No word on where BringMeTheNews is expanding next.
