Forecast: Web ad spend to beat broadcast in 2011

The latest Veronis Suhler Stevenson forecast has some surprising predictions. The first may be expected: broadcast TV will surpass newspapers as the largest ad medium in 2008. But three years later, VSS predicts “total Internet ad spend” will surpass broadcast TV. Here’s the full chart. (Looks like mobile advertising is also wrapped into that number.) The study also predicts a very tough year in 2009, thanks to the economy, the changing business and the lack of political and Olympic ad spending. The big growth areas: internet, “branded entertainment” and out-of-home media.
