Exclusive: E! Announces 8 New Digital Shows

By Karen Fratti

hastaggersE! is going all in with digital programming. Today the network announced a new slate of shows that will be exclusive to their digital platforms. The shows focus on various facets of entertainment — like the network itself — ranging from fashion, talk shows and a comedy series called Hashtaggers. Hashtaggers is the first scripted digital series.

The Royal Hangover, a live digital post-show, will air after each episode of The Royals, premiering on Nov. 15.

John Najarian, executive vice president and general manager of E! News and digital, says that:

With this new slate, we are developing and producing more original digital video content than ever before, and it has been exciting to collaborate with the creative community as we bring to life original programming that hits E!’s pop culture sweet spot. By modifying the content to reflect the unique characteristics of each platform, we are delivering these shows directly to viewers through the digital channel they prefer and reinforcing our position as a truly multi-platform brand for our young adult audience.

The shows will be available on a revamped YouTube channel coming this winter, and on E!’s website, mobile app and their social channels. They plan on tailoring each series to the specific platforms, so there’s no sacrificing quality. This isn’t the first time E! has created digital shows. Live from E! is a live, weekday webshow and they also have E! News Now, which is comprised of original news videos for mobile platforms. E! says that those two series drive 22 million video starts in just the month of September. So, it’s safe to say that E! viewers will be into the new scripted and reality shows.

A full rundown of the new series:

the-royalsThe Royal Hangover
The Royal Hangover is a social post-show livestream hosted by E!’s Will Marfuggi that will bring fans of E!’s hit series The Royals (aka The Loyals) the ultimate recap of that night’s show.  Premiering Nov. 15, the show will air weekly following the East Coast airings of the second season of The Royals. The first episode of The Royal Hangover will be taped from the London Hotel in West Hollywood and will feature creator/executive producer Mark Schwahn along with series stars Elizabeth Hurley, Alexandra Park, Tom Austen and William Moseley. For the rest of the season, the show will tape at E!’s studios and feature a wide variety of special guests.

Hashtaggers

Hashtaggers is one of E!’s first scripted digital series. The 8-episode comedy, from creators Stun Creative, is a hilarious look at a dysfunctional group of celebrity ghost tweeters, and the outrageous repercussions their work has on the entertainment industry.  Each episode of the series will run 3-5 minutes and will be released simultaneously across E!’s social and digital platforms. The series is slated to roll out weekly in February 2016.

Glam Squad

Working title. Produced by Rec Room, Glam Squad takes a comedic look at what it means to be in the inner, INNER circle in Hollywood.  In the series, we meet the beauty team behind glamorous actress Emma Wexler. Her hair stylist, make-up artist and fashion stylist are her crazy dysfunctional family as she struggles with the highs and lows of a budding career in Hollywood. This female “entourage” goes everywhere Emma goes, and the weird and sometimes wicked trouble they get into makes for a riotous good time.
