Eric Ochoa to Star in Online Only Univision Docuseries

By Karen Fratti

ericochoaUnivision Digital is launching an online-only documentary called Becoming a Luchador, starring a member of its creator’s network Eric “SUPEReeeGO” Ochoa as he attempts to master the moves of lucha libre, or Mexican wrestling. The six-part series will follow his training over a month and end with an actual match against a real luchador. Ouch.

The series will be available only on Facebook, YouTube and Flama.com. Ochoa will supplement the series with additional content on his own YouTube channel documenting the trip and training. His channel has over 2 million subscribers and over 400 million video views. He’s one of the most popular Latinos on the video platform, and Univision is hoping to leverage that fame to bring more in.

Steven Benanav, vice president of content partnerships and general manager of Flama, said UCI is excited to see the creator’s network launch another new series:

Not only is it a perfect match of format and platforms with fantastic storytelling for our viewers—it speaks to the value and power of being a part of the Univision Creator Network, which affords talent opportunities that creators may otherwise not have access to.

Univision’s Creator Network is comprised of users from YouTube, Snapchat, Vine and other video platforms. The network drives over 140 million views each month. You can watch Ochoa train to be a luchador starting this spring.
