Detroit newspapers join forces to start aggregator

By Steve Safran

The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News are teaming up to launch Michigan.com, an aggregation site the hope will compete with MLive.com.

“Michigan.com will aggregate news, weather, sports, traffic, entertainment and recreation content from more than 30 organizations statewide, the partnership said in a statement…. The media partnership operates the advertising, circulation, printing and other non-newsroom functions of The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press and will sell advertising specifically for the new site.”

According to Crain’s Detroit Buiness, MLive.com does about 1.7 million uniques per month. It’s interesting to note that Michigan.com will not aggregate MLive’s content – at least for now. (Via @denverpostjoe)
