Days of Our Lives Actor Supports Move to Peacock — Touts ‘Way Less Commercials’

Could longtime soap opera Days of Our Lives moving to Peacock be a good thing?

Robert Scott Wilson, who has played Ben Weston and Alex Kiriakis on the daytime soap, believes the answer is, “yes.”

When it was announced in August that Days of Our Lives would transition to Peacock after almost six decades on NBC, fans were shocked. However, in a video posted on the show’s official Twitter account, Wilson expressed support for the move, specifically noting fewer commercials. There are 20 minutes of commercials on an hour of broadcast TV, whereas Peacock has “way less commercials.”

Additionally, being on the streamer means viewers can “pause, replay a funny line or freeze frame an image you like.”

However, the same thing can be achieved on linear TV via DVR, so we’re not totally sold on that reasoning. But DVRs can have their own host of challenges, such as viewers forgetting to set it to record a show, accidentally deleting an episode or discovering their DVR didn’t record in the first place.

The move to streaming also means that viewers can catch up on past seasons, but most importantly, the soap opera will never once again be interrupted by a special news report, an all too common occurrence.

The final episode of the show’s east coast broadcast on NBC was interrupted by the network’s coverage of King Charles III’s first official address after Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

“That’s right, never again will someone break into your show to make you watch something they think is more important,” Wilson concluded.

Of course, the minute-long video ignores the downside of moving the show: the price tag attached to that.

The ad-support tier of Peacock costs $4.99 per month or $49.99, while the ad-free version costs $9.99 monthly or $99.99 annually. The good news is the streamer is running a promotion that allows new users to sign up for $1.99 a month for 12 months, so at least there’s that.
