The Jamie Foxx vampire thriller Day Shift overtook the fantasy series The Sandman, based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels, as the most streamed program for the week of Aug. 15, per Nielsen data.
Stranger Things remained third, followed by Mindy Kaling’s teen dramedy Never Have I Ever and long-running CBS (Netflix) procedural NCIS.
All of these titles are on Netflix.
Outside of Netflix, other streamers managed to crack the Top 10 in all four lists. Disney+ saw the animated Australian preschool series Bluey and films Lightyear and Encanto in the Top 10, with Prime Video’s period sports dramedy A League of Their Own and Hulu’s Predator prequel Prey and mystery dramedy Only Murders in the Building on there as well.
Highly acclaimed series on HBO Max also were on the list, including Games of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory and Friends. However, the highly anticipated premiere episode of the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon was seemingly missing.
Based on the way the Nielsen measurement is calculated, the HBO release schedule for House of the Dragon only provided a three-hour window to accumulate viewing minutes during its initial week.
Nielsen believes House of the Dragon, which received 327 million viewing minutes in the week of Aug. 15, will become a staple on the list in the coming weeks.
