CES: Skype buys Qik for $100 million

By Steve Safran

Here’s a biggie out of CES: Skype is purchasing Qik for $100 million. The deal makes sense: Skype is kicking butt with both its phone and video chat products. Qik will (presumably) make the video shareable on social networks. It also has live video streaming that you can post on your site, something Skype doesn’t offer. According to Qik’s press release, “The acquisition of Qik helps accelerate Skype’s leadership in video by adding recording, sharing and storing capabilities to Skype’s product portfolio.”
