CBS may cut some iTunes prices to 99 cents

By Steve Safran

Will we see more of this as the iPad approaches? AllThingsD’s Peter Kafka reports that CBS might cut the prices of some of its shows on iTunes from $1.99 to 99 cents. At least, that’s according to CBS CEO Les Moonves. In the same blog entry, AllThingsD updates the original post by writing “[P]eople who are familiar with Moonves’s thinking… are telling me that while CBS is open to talks with Apple, etc., the company has no imminent plans to change pricing.” A trial balloon, perhaps? Or Moonves simply speaking off the cuff? Either way, I’m betting that someone will drop prices of TV shows on iTunes and that the other nets will have to follow. And that’s bad news for the locals, which constantly see the networks finding newer and cheaper ways to usurp the affiliates.
