Canalsat Experiments with Expanded Images on Twitter for ‘Sharknado 2’

sharknado-2-the-second-one Following in the footsteps of the original social media phenomenon, SyFy’s ‘Sharknado 2’ caused a social media frenzy in America last night.

And SyFy hopes the same will happen when it premieres in Europe tonight.

Bigger Than Fiction, a French social TV agency, has worked with France’s largest broadcasters including Canal+, Canalsat, Discovery Channel, France 4, Arte, and Orange. For the premiere of Sharknado 2 in France, the company teamed Canalsat to create a #clicktosea Twitter campaign, which plays with Twitter expanded images.

When you view the images on your Twitter timeline you are exposed to a banal image of women doing yoga and working men. When you click on the image, though, you become privy to the danger that these people are facing: the looming threat of sharks on land.

For Canalsat, which has just under 8,000 followers, the engagement so far on the images has been tremendous. Bigger Than Fiction, which began populating the feed with the images last week, continues through the weekend in the lead-up to the premiere.
