'Call the Close' on Facebook IPO in CNBC's game

By Cory Bergman

Update: We have a winner. Mark Chung guessed $38.25 and Facebook closed at $38.23.

Earlier: Facebook’s big IPO is underway, and CNBC is pulling out all the stops in coverage. “Every story, every angle, every platform,” the promo reads, blazoned across the cover photo on CNBC’s Facebook page. Part of that coverage includes a Facebook game about Facebook’s stock price called, “Call the Close.” The game has been around for awhile — players could guess NASDAQ’s closing number — but it’s been repurposed for the big Facebook debut.

The name of the game is to guess Facebook’s closing price, and CNBC has been promoting the contest on-air, online and on social media. Entries must be filed by 2 p.m. ET today. The winner will be announced on-air on CNBC’s Closing Bell later today and receive “a special prize package.”

“Real-time data is a cornerstone of the CNBC brand, and we know our users will be watching the ticks all day on $FB’s first day of trading,” explains Tom Clendenin, SVP of Brand Marketing, CNBC. “We revived ‘Call the Close’ to enable our audience to share the predictions we think they’ll be making anyway and possibly win something in the process.”

By the way, the app was built with Wildfire’s self-service platform.
