Beamly, a leading social discovery platform for TV, today announced new experiences designed to better engage millennials.
“Millennials constitute more than 70% of our audience for whom 24×7 experiences represents a better behavioral fit,” Beamly CEO Jason Forbes tells LostRemote. “We’ve found however that Millennial page engagement of up to 65% heightens our ability to drive tune in around live TV.”
How does one engage Millennials on second screen platforms? Beamly thinks it’s via ‘Frictionless Fun.’ The new enhancements include:
1) ‘Audience Sentimeters’: 1-click ways to express sentiment towards a TV show, 24×7, which visually shows in real time how others fans are voting
– ‘Sticker sensations’ – 1-click stickers, emojis and icons, customized by TV show and topic that can be shared across the biggest social networks
– ‘Interactive maps and polls’ – 1-click, customizable maps and polls
2) ‘Creator’s Democracy’:
– ‘Contribution grid’ across Beamly show pages that elevates a series of contribution options to the top of the page for users for easier posting
– ‘Quiz Creator’ – Extending ‘frictionless’ and choice to content creators and TV networks with just four steps to create, embed and share any quiz
3) ‘Throwback Pages’: an ode to the most popular shows of the past that have struck a particular chord with Millennials. This special section will offer users space to effortlessly connect and share nostalgic television content.
Beamly continues to boast pretty decent growth numbers: a 11x lift in growth to 10.4 million uniques since its April 2014 relaunch – but the market for dedicated social TV apps may have passed (GetGlue…) or, really, it may have never existed. Perhaps these Millennial-driven initiatives can change that.
