Houston-based CultureMap, which describes itself as a first-of-its-kind “mapzine,” has raised “an amount in the low seven figures,” according to paidContent. The site combines entertainment, arts and culture coverage with hyperlocal mapping technology.
A spokesman told paidContent the money came from Houston-area investors and will be used to expand to other cities. That could mean a welcome career opportunity for arts journalists who have been downsized in recent years, since the start-up has hired former newspaper critics to its staff in Houston.
