It’s Apple TV pre-order day. You still need to buy an HDMI to HDMI cable to make it work, but people are stoked nonetheless. Apple TV doesn’t offer all that much more than other video services like Sling (or Hulu, even) but there’s something in a name. It’s hard to break old habits and if you want to cut the cord, or almost cut the cord, going with something you’re used to makes it easier. The hardest thing about adapting to new streaming services and VOD is user interface, and Apple TV has one you’ll recognize. And Siri will even rewind for you.
That doesn’t mean people aren’t conflicted about it:
Totally forgot the Apple TV is on sale today. *clicks buy*

Look, I’m going to wait until the reviews of the Apple TV are out but honestly I’m probably going to buy one anyway.

I go to buy an Apple TV and they pitch me an “HDMI-to-HDMI” cable as an add-on. Surely it comes with one?

It still scares me a little how easy it is to buy things in the Apple Store App. AppleTV purchase took less than five seconds.

For those of us who have basically been hitting refresh on Apple TV’s “Buy” page for the last four years or so, the new one’s now available.

Like with anything else Apple comes out with, there are the hardcore and the skeptics. But you know you’re buying one.
