Young Adult Writers and Booktubers to Collaborate On a Short Story Anthology

By Maryann Yin

Because You Love to Hate Me 200 (GalleyCat)Bloomsbury will publish a young adult anthology entitled Because You Love to Hate Me. This villain-themed anthology will feature short stories and writing prompts/essays from established authors and book-themed video bloggers (a.k.a. booktubers). The Bookseller reports that Ameriie, a writer and booktuber, will serve as the editor of this project.

Here’s more from Ameriie’s blog post: “The way it would work: booktubers/bookbloggers create three (or more if they’re feeling spicy) writing prompts, from which each of their paired authors choose one that most inspires them. Specific enough to get a prompt-creator’s creative juices flowing, and loose enough to give a writer elbow room. In addition, I wanted each booktuber to contribute an essay that wasn’t so much about the prompts they chose, but one that was rooted in their perspective regarding villains in general.”

The author participants include Ameriie, Renée Ahdieh, Soman Chainani, Susan Dennard, Sarah Enni, Marissa Meyer, Cindy Pon, Victoria Schwab, Samantha Shannon, Adam Silvera, Andrew SmithApril Genevieve Tucholke, and Nicola Yoon. The booktuber participants include Ben of Benjaminoftomes, Catriona of LittleBookOwl, Christina of ChristinaReadsYA blog and TheLushables, Christine of polandbananasBOOKS, Jesse of JessetheReader, Raeleen of padfootandprongs07, Regan of PeruseProject, Samantha of Thoughts on Tomes, Sasha of abookutopia, Sophia of thebookbasement, Whitney of WhittyNovels, Zoe of readbyzoe, and Steph Sinclair and Kat Kennedy of Cuddlebuggery blog and Cuddlebuggery channel. According to Meyer’s blog post, the release date has been scheduled for July 2017. (via Publishing Perspectives)
