You’d Better Run to This City of Refuge

Here’s a quick video clip of author Tom Piazza, whose novel about two familes affected by Hurricane Katrina, City of Refuge, was recently selected for this year’s “One Book One New Orleans” program:

Seeing this clip reminded us of a story we were sent last week from the blog of the Times-Picayune book editor, Susan Larson, about a new office for the Neighborhood Story Project, an organization we discussed back in 2005, when their entire inventory was destroyed in the hurricane and independent Soft Skull Press rallied support to bring the books back into print.

The Project’s new headquarters (and their association with the University of New Orleans Press) will help take its mission (“our stories told by us”) to a whole new level. And, in addition to the Neighborhood Story Project books that UNO will be publishing, creative writing classes for the community’s residents will begin tomorrow.
