Ann and Jeff VanderMeer, the co-editors of Tachyon‘s New Weird anthology of stories somewhere in the hazy middle of the science fiction/fantasy spectrum, want you to share your own weird story, where the prize isn’t just an autographed copy of that book, but at least seven other anthologies the couple have planned between now and 2010, and maybe even some issues of Weird Tales (where Ann edits fiction). The story should be “something strange (but entertaining and either PG-rated or with the naughty bits blocked out) that happened to you or you witnessed,” spooky or silly, your pick, and you can post it in the comments section of the announcement post between now and Sunday. (On Amazon.com‘s Omnivoracious blog, Jeff reveals some of the Insect Lab designs that didn’t make it onto the book’s cover…)

Meanwhile, YA author Kerry Madden is inviting readers to send her their “best” school photos for her to post on her LiveJournal, with three winners (selected by her daughters) to receive a copy of her new novel, Jessie’s Mountain… You can get pics in at the last minute; the winners won’t be announced until Monday.
