Walt Whitman Musical Adaptation Free on September 11

On September 11th, a production of More or Less I Am will be performed free of charge at the Old Stone House in Brooklyn. The musical theater production adapts Walt Whitman‘s poem, Song of Myself.

Whitman (pictured, via) published the poem in his anthology Leaves of Grass; it is hailed as his “tribute to a nation’s ideals on the brink of civil war.” Karin Coonrod conceived the project and Colin and Eric Jacobsen composed the music.

Here’s more from the release: “Reflecting Whitman’s celebration of American diversity as encapsulated in New York City, an international mix of actors, musicians, and children will speak and sing Whitman’s words. Members of the audience will also be encouraged to play a role. Following all performances, audiences are invited to join the cast and crew for a celebratory reception, with food and drink for all to share.”
