Verso, an independent press that describes itself as “the largest radical publisher in the English-language world,” announced yesterday that it had increased sales by 59 percent in 2006, with total earnings of $4.18 million, $394,000 of which was pure profit—the most the company has made in nearly four decades of operations. According to managing director Giles O’Bryen, “2007 is primarily a year of consolidation and preparation,” although forthcoming titles like a comic-book biography of Che Guevara and a Radiohead art book are expected to provide strong revenues later this year, setting the house up for its fortieth anniversary next year, when their aim is to pass $6 million in sales.
