Usher to Host Scholastic Event That Promotes Reading

By Dianna Dilworth

biggerthanwordsScholastic has partnered with R&B singer Usher for a new program designed to encourage reading among children.

The initiative is called “Open a World of Possible,” and was put together with the idea of promoting reading in the classroom, as well as at home. To push this message, Usher will appear on a live webcast hosted by Scholastic called “Bigger than Words.”

On November 6, 2014 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, Usher will talk about the importance of books live from Scholastic’s headquarters in New York. Teachers and parents are encouraged to watch the event live by registering at this link.

“I established New Look, a charitable organization to assist young people to become leaders and to instill in them a belief that they can create change in their communities and around the world,” stated Usher. “I’m excited to host the webcast with Scholastic to demonstrate to kids how reading frequently, and being a reading mentor to their friends and others in their community, can open doors to endless possibilities.”

As part of the campaign, Scholastic is encouraging teachers and parents to share their tips for making reading a part of day-to-day life with the hashtag#SharePossible. In addition, the publisher will donate 100,000 books to young readers and schools through The Scholastic Possible Fund.
