This’ll Blow the Heartland’s Minds…

voudon-gnostic.jpgIn certain circles, The Voudon Gnostic Workbook of Michael Bertiaux is legendary, a 20th-century grimoire published in very limited editions, so nowadays copies on eBay sell for $180, sometimes even more. In the last decade, the tome’s reputation has been enhanced by Grant Morrison‘s admission that he used its time travel rituals while creating his subversive graphic novel epic, The Invisibles. Occult specialty house Weiser Books is set to publish a revised, expanded edition of the Workbook for just $40 next summer, and it’s already available for pre-order at Amazon.com. But that’s not all: WalMart is selling it online, too. At least until somebody there realizes what’s in it; somehow I doubt Sam Walton’s vision of commerce, no matter how inclusive it may be, extends to a book that promises you can get in touch with extra-dimensional insect gods straight out of Lovecraft.
