This Book Trailer’s Going Faster Miles An Hour

I kinda like this three-minute trailer for Gayle Brandeis‘s Self Storage, not least of all for the sentimental reason that one of the two Super-8 films I shot in college was a similar compilation of through-the-car-window footage, only mine was set to the Modern Lovers‘s “Roadrunner.” Sometimes the passage that Brandeis is reading from her novel is only tangentially connected to the visuals—like when she talks about cutting into sealed boxes—but she reads her work well, and it’s an effective mood piece.

(Mind you, there is a connection between word and image: All that drive-by footage has self storage facilities of the kind Brandeis describes in much more intimate detail.)
