The New York Times Crafts an Obituary for William Shakespeare

By Maryann Yin

shakespeare304The New York Times has published a mock obituary for William Shakespeare. The Bard actually died on April 23, 1616 at the age of 52.

Here’s an excerpt from the piece: “As long as we wrestle with what it means to be human, Mr. Shakespeare will be our companion and our lodestar. The words of Hamlet serve as a fitting epitaph for his creator: ‘What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason! How infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In apprehension how like a god!'”

For the past few weeks, the world has been honoring Shakespeare to recognize the 400th anniversary of his passing.
